In the Joint Disease & Reconstruction center, 11 faculty members are performing diagnoses and treatments in areas idivided into cerebral palsy/pediatric orthopedic/feet , deformation correction/hip joint, intractable cervical spinal diseases/spinal diseases, knee joint and sports medicine, shoulder joint/bone· soft tissue tumor, and hand diseases/microsurgery. Staring out with around 27,000 outpatients, 18,000 inpatients, and 1,500 surgeries plus approximately 70 papers published in domestic/overseas academic journals in 2003, this center has grown with around 58,000 outpatients, 27,000 inpatients, and 3,200 surgeries performed in a year as of 2007.
The Joint Disease & Reconstruction center obtained an amazing outcome of zero infection after 627 primary artificial hip joint surgeries performed since its opening in May 2003 until December 2007. Compared to the infection ratio of 1~2% after total hip joint replacements with artificial joints in large hospitals in the USA, the 0% infection ratio of Seoul National University Bundang Hospital can be said to be a remarkable feat.
A spasticity clinic where professors from the orthopedic department, rehabilitation medicine department, and neurosurgery department gather together to diagnose and treat muscular spasticity caused by cerebral palsy is operated, and it is earning raves so far.
