Pathology is a specialized area of medicine. Pathologists provide final diagnosis by examining tissue or cytology specimens obtained from the patients. This is essential to the management of patients by clinical doctors. Specifically, pathologists diagnose the accurate subtype of cancer and determine the stages of diseases so that clinical doctors can decide the treatment procedures to be used or can come up with an accurate prognosis of their patients.
The faculty members of the Pathology Department endeavor to add to the body of research on human diseases, and to introduce the newest equipment for accurate and rapid pathologic service. In other words, the Pathology Department of Seoul National University Bundang Hospital is aiming at achieving fast and accurate pathological diagnoses and intends to cooperate closely with clinical departments and centers.
Currently, there are nine professors, three fellows, four residents, 22 technicians, eight clerical workers, and eight researchers in the pathology department.
