Our hospital’s Outstanding Rehabilitation Team provides each of these patients with a comprehensive and tailored treatment.

The natures of an increasing number of diseases have become more chronic and degenerative of late, requiring not only preventive and therapeutic medicine but also rehabilitation therapy. Our department is committed to providing the best possible rehabilitation therapy for patients with chronic diseases. Our clean and comfortable rehabilitation facilities will surely satisfy exhausted patients with long-course diseases.

Paik, Nam-Jong | M.D.
Specialty : Neurorehabilitation, Pain (Myofascial pain, Shoulder pain, Neck pain, Back pain, Arthritis)

njpaik@snu.ac.kr

MD. PhD

Dr. Paik received his M.D. degree from Seoul National University, and his Ph.D. degree in Preventive Medicine from Seoul National University. He did his residency training in rehabilitation medicine at Seoul National University Hospital. At SNUH, he did a two-year clinical fellowship, studying neurorehabilitation and clinical neurophysiology. He became an assistant professor at Seoul National University College of Medicine in 2001 and is now a tenured professor. He is also serving as the chief communications and policy officer and as the chief of the Cardio-Cerebral Rehabilitation Center of Seoul National University Bundang Hospital. From 2005 to 2006, he studied brain plasticity in stroke patients at the Human Cortical Physiology Section of NINDS/NIH, USA, as a visiting fellow.

The objective of Dr. Paik’s research is to develop novel therapeutic approaches for the restoration of human function, and to understand these mechanisms. He is also interested in improving the different functions in the elderly. The principal diseases he has studied are stroke, dementia, and aging, and the principal symptoms he is studying are weakness, sensory loss, dysphagia, spasticity, cognitive dysfunction, excretory dysfunction, pain, etc. His work has focused of late on developing rational therapeutic strategies to improve function and learning ability in stroke patients, and on understanding the mechanisms of human neuroplasticity. For evaluation, he employs techniques like transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), electromyography (EMG), evoked potential (EP), and neuroimaging.

Dr. Paik is now the associate editor of several international journals, including Restorative Neurology and Neuroscience and PM&R, the official journal of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPMR).

He received the 2007 Fletcher H. McDowell Award from the American Society for Neurorehabilitation in 2007, and the first-place Poster Award from the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine in 2009. He was also honored by the American Society of Neurorehabilitation at the ASNR/WFNR Member News Page listed in the May 2009 issue of Neurorehabilitation and Neural Repair.

drlim1@snu.ac.kr

MD. PhD

Dr. Lim specializes in musculoskeletal rehabilitation, including sports medicine, geriatrics, and interventional psychiatry. The objective of his current research is to investigate the key mechanisms of functional restoration and adaptation after injury, chronic diseases, or aging in humans. Especially, Dr. Lim is interested in the biochemical and physiological changes that occur during the aging process. His main experimental research interest is muscle physiology, particularly the age-related changes in muscle elasticity, plasticity, and apoptosis. His laboratory is fully equipped for DNA and protein analysis and for muscle mechanics to delineate the characteristics of these molecules. His clinical interest is moving towards the impact of chronic dysfunctions on the quality of life in elders and cancer survivors.
