Introduction to the department
- As one of the special clinical departments in internal medicine, the division of infectious diseases is in charge of the diagnoses and treatments of various kinds of infectious diseases caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites, including novel emerging infectious diseases.
- Infectious diseases can affect any part of our body. Sometimes, they may be minor, such as common cold; among these infections, however, various diseases may lead to death within several hours if not treated properly upon onset, such as sepsis.
- Although the symptoms that appear differ depending on the infected area of the body, the patient develops a fever in most cases. Therefore, the division of infectious diseases diagnoses and treats patients suspected of such Infectious Diseases to find out the cause, make a diagnosis, and treat them properly according to the diagnosis.
Major diseases diagnosed and treated
1. Various kinds of infectious diseases that commonly afflict the general public
- Fever with unknown origin, pneumonia, pyelonephritis, cystitis, meningoencephalitis, endocarditis, etc.
- Viral Infectious Diseases: influenza, herpes zoster, chickenpox, measles, epidemic hemorrhagic fever, HIV/AIDS, etc.
- Bacterial Infectious Diseases: typhoid fever, Vibrio sepsis, tuberculosis, scrub typhus, leptospirosis, etc.
