Participation of transgender and gender diverse persons in cardiovascular clinical trials
R Stamatiou, G Kararigas
American Heart Journal Plus: Cardiology Research and Practice, 2024•Elsevier
Transgender persons face increased risk in developing cardiovascular diseases due to administration of hormonal therapy used for gender expression, or due to the presence of other risk factors, such as minority stress and difficulty to have full access to health care. Even though the need for gender
diversity in research has been identified, the number of clinical trials including transgender persons remains low. The aim of this study was to

Sharing Insights on Sex and Gender Research with a Japanese Research Agency

Chyren Hunter, Ph.D., ORWH Associate Director of Basic and Translational Therapies, and Regine Douthard, M.D., M.P.H., ORWH Senior Medical Officer, represented NIH in a meeting with the Japan Science and Technology Agency to discuss and share insights on fostering gender innovations
and sex as a biological variable (SABV) research in the United States. By sharing NIH’s SABV policy’s best practices and lessons learned with an international research agency, ORWH demonstrated its strong culture of internal and external collaboration.

Considering climate-induced sex-based differences to mitigate biodiversity loss
E Gissi, M Ghezzo, J McDevitt-IrwinR Santoleri - Our …, 2024 - openpub.fmach.it
In the Anthropocene, effective strategies for reversing the loss of biodiversity rely on knowledge of how marine organisms, populations, and communities respond to environmental change. A fundamental but often overlooked biological characteristic of organisms is sex, which is distinct from
sociocultural gender. Sex describes differences in sexual characteristics within living organisms that go beyond their reproductive functions and affect appearance and physiology, neuroendocrine, behavioral, and metabolic systems …
